I need weight loss surgery, How much out of pocket money will I need?

I have an employee group PPO (Humana) I live in Florida is there any financial help available.

While there are many different types of weight loss surgery, the cost averages about $25,000. Depending on a combination of factors, costs have been stated as ranging from $10,000 to $40,000. While cost can vary between procedures, cost also varies for the same procedure from person to person based on their individual circumstances. The complexity of the surgery, the amount and type of follow-up care can differ between patients, as well as cost differences between geographical locations and from doctor to doctor.

When comparing costs, it is necessary to account for all factors that contribute to the overall cost of weight loss surgery. Some weight loss surgery providers will quote one all encompassing cost, while other providers will quote surgery cost only, and not take into account pre-op tests, hospital charges, follow-up care, counseling appointments, but prefer to bill items separately.

Hope this helps.

You might already have your mind set on the surgery, but before you do it think about this:

Your life will never be the same afterwords. You will never eat the same. You will never enjoy another meal, christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. If you do the gastric bypass you will have to take supplements for the rest of your life. If you do the lap band you will eventually be able to eat regular foods again but only a few bites and you have to chew sooooo slowly.

My mom was already convinced that this was the surgery for her. She was going to do the lap band surgery and nothing could convince her otherwise. She was trying to get me to go to these meetings with her so I could hear all the details about it so she wouldn't have to explain it to me later. I refused. I told her that I didn't agree with the surgery but that if she was set on doing it then I wouldn't oppose either. Whatever she chose I would stand by her side.

As she continued to tell me details I disagreed even more. It is a HUGE lifestyle change. She was willing to never eat a regular meal again. Eat pure liquids in the beginning, then move up to baby food and so on.

My words to her were these:

If you have the strength and willpower to make that huge lifestyle change, why can't you make an easier lifestyle change by controlling what you eat now? You have to lose some weight before you even have the surgery. Since you can do that on your own, why can't you lose more on your own? You can fix your stomach with surgery and never be able to eat again. You can fix your body with plastic surgery. BUT the real problem is in your head. If you don't fix your head the bad habbits will still be there. If it's not food it will be something else. I guarantee you.

Sorry for making this so long, but I felt it necessary. I wish you the best of luck in your lifestyle change!

amdm92, Last year I was able to drop 16 pounds. In addition to healthy eating I joined a weight loss clinic in Washington. Maybe you should try consulting a weight loss clinic in Florida.

It would have been difficult to loose the weight without some help and encouragement. I now have much more energy and am happy that I did not wait forever.
