What is your opinion on weight loss surgeries?

Do you think getting a lap band or a gastric bypass surgery is worth the risk, scars, and food limitations you are put on afterwards( I've heard you can't drink soda/pop any more and nothing high in sugar)? I kinda feel like it's almost patetic that someone needs to have major surgey because they can't stop stuffing their face and put down the bon-bon's. Is this a bad way of thinking?

I only agree with it if the person has SERIOUSLY tried loosing weight themselves with diet and exercise, and can't. Those who weight more than 300 pounds it is usually hard for them to lose that much weight but I think before any surgery they should try and be monitored by a doctor to qualify for gastric bypass and such. Otherwise, I think it's acceptable for those obese. Not these crazy rich people who want to chop off the hamburgers they've been eating from mc donalds.

If your going to spend thousands of dollars to have the surgery only to eat bon bons after losing the weight says your only doing it for physical appearences.

I want to shed some pounds as well, however I am going to eat healthier and excercise and visit my doctor to make sure I am doing the right things for my body.

I can understand your point. For people who are very self motivated, like you seem to be, it can be confusing as to why someone doesn't have the willpower to eat right, exercise and lose weight the hard way. I partially agree. There are some, however, who are morbidly obese, who could never exercise like you or I, who are used to consuming 33,000 calories a day. It can be very difficult to change behavior. Weight loss really is about behavior change. You must change the way you think about food. It no longer fills an emotional need. it is simply there to provide you the nutrients you need to run efficiently. It's not that simple for some, though. I can understand using surgery as a means of losing huge amounts of weight, so that one can get up and exercise and live life. For the majority, I think its taking the easy way out, especially when you see that some who've had the procedure done end up with weight issues months down the line. They gain it all back. The truth about surgery is it doesn't fix the behavior. It fixes the symptoms of the behavior.
